Week 9

I hope everyone enjoyed the lovely weather over the long weekend.  We have reached the final week of Spring Track, which means one more meet and the annual Run to DQ.  Our meet on Tuesday has been switched to Lexington, at the moment we have one full-sized bus and one mini-bus.  Unfortunately, this will conflict with many families who have athletes also performing in the orchestra concert at WHS.  Please let us know as soon as possible any athlete availability or alternative travel plans so we can finalize the bus list

Monday - Memorial Day - No Practice

Tuesday - AWAY Meet vs. Lexington 4:15.  The track can be found just past the high school, next to the town pool.  Parking is available along Worthen Road and next to the Center Playground.  We hope to return to WMS no later than 7:00

Thursday - Annual Run to DQ

Every year we end our Track (as well as Cross Country) season with a run to and from Dairy Queen in Natick (about.75 miles).  There are only two major street crossings where we regroup and cross as a team.  To guarantee team safety and timeliness, we do ask that anyone coming along be ready to run the entire distance with very minimal stops.  Practice should end around 4:45.  Permission slips were handed out at last Thursday's practice and need to be turned in to participate.

Thank you for all your help and support for our athletes and have a wonderful end to the school year.

Week 7

The Track Team hits the road twice as we move into the second half of the season. At this time, we have not received word about our bus situation.  Is soon is that is made clear by the athletic department, we will reach out via email.  Our athletes put in some great work last week, even as the temperature starts to rise.  Please make sure that they are coming to school prepared to best handle weather that will consistently be int he 70's and 80's going forward.  That means the proper attire that will keep them cool as well as bringing their own water bottles.  Although we are still using plastic bottles at school, transferring it into a personal bottle will help athletes come prepared for practice.   We hope to use the two meets to try athletes in different events one last time, before we prepare for our big end-of-the-season showdown with Lexington.  As always, please let us know if you plan on providing transportation (either way) for your athlete.  See you at the track!

Monday - practice at the middle school from 3:30-4:45

Tuesday - AWAY Meet vs Concord Middle School 4:15

For those of you planning to attend.  The track is located at Emerson Field on Thoreau Street just up the road from Concord-Carlisle High School. We are planning to return to WMS around 6:30.

Thursday - AWAY Meet vs. Marshall Middle School (Billerica) 4:30

Parking can be found to the left of the school's main entrance.  The track is located behind the school, past the baseball field. We are planning to return to WMS no later than 7:00.

Friday - practice at the middle school from 3:30-4:45

Week 6

Despite a valiant effort we were unable to get by the gargantuan John Glenn Middle School Track Team.  Nevertheless, our athletes continue to post PR’s across the board! Ryan McCormack (100m) Tristan Norgaard (200, LJ), Mia Rent (Mile), Sazie Wrentmore (LJ) remain undefeated on the season.  McCormack and Norgaard were joined by Jayden Taylor and Gio Sailsman in the 4x100 relay to win dominantly and post a time of 52.1 that is surely one of the best in the state this season. I would like to thank all the families who helped get their athletes to the meet and alleviate our bus issues.  We have  full week of practices before heading back out on the road again next week.  We may find ourselves in a similar transportation for our 5/17 and 5/19 meets at Concord and Billerica.  The hope is we will be able to use the mini-bus (14 seats) if necessary, but may look for transportation assistance again.  Some Athletic Fee payments are overdue,  these must be paid to participate in the 5/17 meet.  Please reach out if you have any questions.

Monday - practice at the middle school from 3:30-4:45

Week 5

The Middle School Track Team got off to an impressive start to the meet schedule with victories over Watertown and Weston on both the Boys and Girls side.  We will hit the road for the first time this Friday to face John Glenn Middle School in Bedford which is typically a formidable opponent.  Despite a fierce headwind on Friday, many of our athletes posted PR's.  Hopefully we can continue that against the Buccaneers!

Monday - practice at the middle school from 3:30-4:45

- Our Relay teams for Friday's meet will be announced.  This will allow further chemistry and hand-off practice as well as give other athletes a chance to form their own relay squads.

Tuesday - practice at the middle school from 3:30-4:45

- Line-ups for Fridays meet will be announced and posted to the blog after.

Thursday - practice at the middle school from 3:30-4:45

Friday - Away Meet at Bedford at 4:30.  The town is providing us with two buses to Bedford that should leave shortly after school and return around 6:30.  If you plan on attending the meet and would like to bring your child home from Bedford, please email the coaches to inform us about your pick-up plan.  It is a town rule that families need to notify coaches if they plan on bringing their child home following a sporting event.  When you do depart from the meet, please check-in with Coach Moloney so we can keep an accurate list.  Thank you for your cooperation with this town rule.  As always, feel free to email if there are any lingering questions

Week 4

We hope everyone had a restful break, the team is jumping right into our meet schedule as we return to school.  If you have not yet viewed it, our line up for Monday's meet can be seen here.  As a reminder, only the first heat of the sprinting events go towards team scoring, later heats are subject to change based on the amount of total participants.  Athletes not running on the "A Team" for the relays are encouraged to form their own foursomes to compete.  Families are expected to drive athletes to home meets and we are hoping to do first call for the mile and field events at 4:00.  As team members arrive, they can congregate on the near side of the bleachers, please be mindful of the high school practices that will be taking place in the same area.  Here is a our schedule for the week:

Monday - HOME Meet at at Wayland High School from 4:00 - ~6:00

Tuesday - practice at the middle school from 3:30-4:45

Thursday - practice at the middle school from 3:30-4:45

Friday - HOME Meet at Wayland High School vs Weston Middle School from 4:00 - ~6:00

- as we did with our two time trials, athletes will have the chance to move around and try different track events.  We will also cycle in new participants for our field events.

We are very excited to start competing.  If there are any questions, feel free to reach out.

Week 3

The track team had a successful week 2 that included a full time trial and the beginning of our shot put and long jump training. We have been told that it will not be possible to transport the athletes to the high school via bus for practice, we will have to do the best with the equipment and outdoor space we have at middle school. This also includes transportation for home meets. Athletes families will be responsible for getting them to the high school for home meets, which includes the day we return from break. The athletic department is working on transportation for our METCO athletes to get to the high school on home meet days. To participate in the first meet, families must have the athletic fee paid, use the following link to complete the process if you have not already done so: https://unipaygold.unibank.com/default.aspx (enter "Wayland Public Schools’ Athletic Program" in the search bar.)

We had a large amount of unexcused absences from practice last week. If you have not already communicated to the team any conflicts (eg: Honors chamber orchestra, jazz band etc...) please do so. All other absences need to be communicated to the coaches via email or note from home. Athletes who have several unexcused absences will be restricted from participating in meets.

Our first meet is fast approaching, but is somewhat inconveniently that day we return from break. Next weekend we will post some suggested activities for those looking to stay active over break as well as our line-up for the first meet.

Monday - practice at the middle school from 3:30-4:45

Tuesday - practice at the middle school from 3:30-4:45

Thursday - practice at the middle school from 3:30-4:45
- Practice Meet #2. We will once again race at WMS with our athletes trying out a different event from the first time trial. We will be wearing our jerseys to school for team spirit (please bring a check for $11 if you do not have a jersey). We may move this up to Tuesday if the weather continues to look questionable for this day

Friday - No School - No Practice
