Greetings Wayland Middle School Caregivers,
This week’s message honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the work that we are doing at WMS to create a community where all belong, are seen, and are free from acts of harm.
Nonviolence as a way of life.
Nonviolence chooses love instead of hate.
Nonviolence believes that the universe is on the side of justice.
Nonviolence seeks to defeat injustice, not people.
Nonviolence holds that suffering can educate and transform.
Nonviolence is a way of life for courageous people.
Nonviolence seeks to win friendship and understanding.
Many thanks to Ms. Dirmeikis for creating the WMS Pop-Up Exhibit: The Idea of a Beloved Community. Please stop by the exhibit to read one of the many texts related to the Civil Rights Movement and Dr. King’s leadership, to match provided visuals to Dr. King’s principles of non-violence, and to take a moment for peaceful reflection. The exhibit is located in the hallway adjacent to the library and opposite the courtyard.
At the Wayland METCO Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration on Monday, January 19th, our middle school students demonstrated their commitment to Dr. King’s message through their speeches, instruction, and music. We celebrate eighth graders
Caleb Hammond, Whitney Zylich, Georgette Isahagian, Jayani Norris, Manal Siidi, Penelope Fishburn, and Selin Yardibi for their inspiring speeches about Embrace heroes
Embrace Boston Heroes. Thanks to eighth graders
Kaleb Nigus and King Graham who presented “MLK by the Numbers”, we were reminded of Dr. King’s sacrifices and timeless impact. We are grateful for the collaborative musical performance of seventh graders
Abigail Ahodokpo, Kinverlie Boval, Annaelle Charles, and staff member Marnie Hall. This Friday, at WMS, our students in grades 6, 7, and 8 will have an opportunity to celebrate 8th grade house mentor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in our annual school-based celebration.
In the words of Dr. King, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that”. At WMS, our doors are always open. Whether you have questions, concerns, or simply want to share in the excitement of the school year or talk about where our school needs to go, we encourage you to reach out.
